I work in the design side of a manufacturing firm in South Western Ontario. The current economic crisis has affected my company greatly. Over the last six months our sales have plummeted.
For ease in future posts I am going to my company as Big Widgets Inc. This is mostly because I like my job and don't want to compromise it in any way.
For last several months production at Big Widgets Inc has been shut down for weeks due to the lack of demand. The company made the decision not to layoff design/engineering staff during so that critical projects could still be completed on time.
In the last couple of months it has become obvious that the company is not going to be able to recover quickly, not due to any fault of the company but rather a lack of sales. As a result Big Widgets Inc has signed up for workshare.
The blog will detail my expeirences with being on workshare. The reason I write this is because there seems to be a real lack of information out there on exactly how Workshare in Ontario, Canada works.
